Carmen had only a moderate success in his first in 1875, perhaps because of his subject is not conventional, but soon became immensely popular and has remained so. Its soundtrack features a myriad of wonderful melodies including the sultry "Habanera" and the "Seguidille" Carmen, the air of Don José "Le fleur que tu m'avais jetée", and the invigorating "Toreador" of Escamillo.
Plot
ACT I
We find ourselves in a square in Seville. Moralès, and a group of dragons, they are impressed by the young Micaela, arrived from the countryside in search of the brigadier Don José. The woman departs, and on his arrival, the brigadier is informed by Moralès in Carmen.
At the time of the break, the women come out from the factory, but José does not show interest for them because he loves Micaela and promised her mother to marry her. All the men are waiting Carmen, the shake around, but she only has eyes for Jose and throws him a flower. The reaction de brigadier is upset and hides the flower under the jacket.
Micaela, back in the square, the delivery of a letter of the mother, and kisses him chastely before he left.
This starts a brawl between the women and Carmen, the most aggressive, is arrested by Zuniga, who orders José to take her to the prison. Alone with the sergeant, Carmen begins his work of seduction, the promises of love in exchange for freedom. José, now seduced, helps him to escape.
ACT II
Carmen awaits the return of Don José, was imprisoned because the guilty have made her escape. Escamillo turns to Carmen words in love, but is rejected.
Back to Jose, come out of rent, in the meantime, Attila, sleeping in your tent, when you wake up, tell the squire Uldino of a dream: the joint at the gates of Rome, he is stopped by a white-haired old man, requiring him to retreat in the face of the earth of God.
Lieutenant Zuniga orders José to return, he rebels and erupts in a brawl. The smugglers separate them, and the man joins Carmen and the outlaws deserting the army.
ACT III
José realizes that the relationship with Carmen is not what it used to be a time. In the meantime, Micaela reached the camp of the smugglers in search of José, but runs away when he sees Escamillo.
Jealous of his rival, José challenges him to a duel, the bullfighter, but is stopped by the gypsies, who are Naturally hidden in the rocks that refers to José that his mother is at the point of death; the man agrees to follow her, but before going off the threat of Carmen, of which he is madly in love.
ACT IV
In front of the bullring of Seville, the crowd acclaims the procession of the bullfighters, and among the crowd there is Carmen who is now in love with Escamillo.
Mercedes and Frasquita the warn that José is nearby; the man approaches to talk to her but his pleas are useless, the woman rejects him and, in a sign of contempt, slips off the ring that gave her, and she throws.
Desperate and blinded by anger for being refused, he kills the woman with a stab, then it is the policemen while the crowd celebrates the victory of Escamillo.
If Carmen represents the passion, then Micaela embodies the purity of the same sentiment. Two sides of the same coin that can coexist in the same individual, but which, here, are put to the antipodes. The bond between the two is Don José, a good country boy, honest and good feelings. Very attached to the mother, want to put on the family by marrying Micaela, but the encounter with Carmen change her plans and her destiny. Starting from these assumptions, we can view a triangle, at whose base there are the two female figures, while at the apex there is the young man who unwisely outlines the fate of the work.
